Caring for seniors at DRMC
For northeast Alabama seniors who have become combative, aggressive, agitated and difficult to manage, the Senior Care Unit at DeKalb Regional Medical Center (DRMC) is here.
At DRMC’s 12-bed Senior Care Unit, our experienced staff has the unique skills to treat and manage these problems. With a 15-day average length of stay, we’re able to take the necessary time to evaluate and treat even the most difficult behaviors and return the patient home in a much more manageable state.
The facility is well equipped to provide medical care, including intravenous therapy, feeding tubes, wound/decubitus care, pre- and postoperative care and oxygen therapy.
The program features comprehensive medical evaluation, multidisciplinary assessment and diagnosis, individualized treatment plans and individual and group therapy. DRMC focuses on family participation and provides coping and life skills training, activity therapy groups, therapeutic and stress reduction exercises, art and expressive therapy, nutritional assessments, psychopharmacotherapy, discharge and continuity-of-care planning and referral to community resources and agencies.
Don’t hesitate to contact us if you’re unsure whether a loved one would be appropriate for our unit. We welcome the opportunity to work with you on evaluating options. For a confidential, comprehensive evaluation, call DRMC’s Senior Care Unit at 256-997-2725
